Dallas residents face a crowded cultural calendar this weekend with 16 scheduled events spread across the metropolitan area. The lineup includes a comedy tour stop, a major music festival, and six separate theater productions. Several events run multiple days, while others are single-night occurrences.
The schedule began on Thursday, November 5. David Koechner, known for his roles in The Office and Anchorman, performed at Hyena's Comedy Nightclub. He is part of a five-day engagement that runs through Saturday. On the same day, Steve Lacy played a concert at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving. Lacy's latest album, Oh Yeah?, reached the top 15 of the Billboard 200 chart.
Friday, November 6, brings outdoor activities and stage performances. The Commemorative Air Force hosts Aviation Discovery Fest at Dallas Executive Airport. The event runs through Saturday and allows visitors to tour historic military aircraft. Families can also visit The Light Park, a mile-long LED light show located at three sites: Samuell Farm in Mesquite, Riders Field in Frisco, and Hurricane Harbor in Arlington. At the Majestic Theatre, essayist David Sedaris reads from his new collection, The Land and Its People, and signs books for the audience.
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents a concert titled Ellington, Strayhorn & Gershwin at Meyerson Symphony Center. Pianist Lara Downes joins the orchestra for these performances, which continue through Sunday. The concert honors the 30-year collaboration between Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.
Saturday, November 7, features the 16th annual Festival at the Switchyard in Carrollton. The free event includes rides, games, and music from headliner Toad the Wet Sprocket. Other bands performing include Eve 6, Wheatus, and HeartByrne. In Arlington, Ye performs at AT&T Stadium. The rapper, who is currently touring in support of his album Bully, will perform on a spherical stage featuring projections of the Earth and moon.
Several theater productions run through the weekend. Broadway Dallas presents Buena Vista Social Club at the Music Hall at Fair Park, with performances ending on November 15. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's concert runs through Sunday. Other long-running shows include Making God Laugh at Cox Playhouse in Plano, which runs through November 22, and Eva Luna at the Latino Cultural Center, also scheduled through November 22.
Ye's concert at AT&T Stadium is part of a tour that has visited nine countries, including Georgia, Albania, and Kazakhstan. The event is one of the few appearances in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the artist this cycle.
