Gina Hinojosa will speak to reporters in Austin on Thursday.
The 2 p.m. Central Time briefing marks her first public availability since winning the 2026 gubernatorial race. She will use the session to present her administration's priorities, executive agenda, and legislative goals for the upcoming session.
Hinojosa declared her victory on Tuesday night in Austin. She described the result as a decisive mandate against political corruption and corporate influence. The former school board member and state representative traced her political roots to her initial run for local office to protect her children's education. She stated that the win proved "anything is possible" for the state.
Following her speech, Hinojosa confirmed a phone call with outgoing Governor Greg Abbott. Abbott offered his congratulations and pledged to assist with the executive transition. Hinojosa thanked Abbott and his family for their years of public service before criticizing the state's political status quo.
The governor-elect pledged specific administrative changes for her first day in office. She promised to fire Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath and dismantle the state's school voucher program. She declared that the era of treating public schools like they are for sale has ended.
Hinojosa framed her coalition as a group of working families, teachers, oilfield workers, and small-business owners rather than a purely partisan effort. She committed to ending no-bid state contracts and restoring ethics standards. She warned that corruption does not become right when her side performs the actions.
Transition operations are set to begin immediately following the announcement. Hinojosa is scheduled for her inauguration in January.
