The 2026-2027 NBA season enters its third week with a clear test of resilience for two Eastern Conference rivals. The reigning New York Knicks host the Chicago Bulls at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday evening. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

New York enters the game as the 11.5-point favorite. The Knicks currently hold a 3-4 record and rank fourth in the Atlantic Division. Their defensive efficiency remains a league standout, allowing an average of 105.1 points per game, the third-lowest mark in the NBA. They are 2-2 at home this season. Guard Josh Hart is listed as questionable for the contest due to an ankle injury, a potential factor in New York's lineup depth.

Chicago arrives in a slump, having dropped five straight games. The Bulls sit at 1-6 on the season and hold a 1-4 record on the road. Their most recent loss came Monday in Philadelphia, where they fell to the 76ers, 126-107. The Knicks, by contrast, came off a 103-90 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, reinforcing their home-court strength.

Betting markets set the total points line at 234.5. SportsLine, a sports projection provider, ran 10,000 simulations of the matchup to generate predictions. The model projects a total of 229 points. In those simulations, the Under hit in 58% of outcomes.

Historical data supports the lower-scoring projection. The Under has hit in two of the last three meetings between these teams. Totals also stayed under the line in each of Chicago's last two games and in eight of New York's last ten contests. The SportsLine model notes that one side of the spread is likely to hit in 70% of the simulations.

Player scoring projections reflect the disparity in team strength. For the Bulls, Caleb Wilson and Norman Powell are projected to score at least 16 points. On the Knicks side, Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby are each expected to score more than 17 points. The model attributes the Knicks' projected dominance to their superior defensive efficiency and recent offensive outputs.

The contest offers a stark contrast in team form. New York aims to maintain its defensive standards and solidify its position in the division standings. Chicago must improve its road performance to stop its losing skid. The game serves as a key early-season benchmark for both franchises' trajectories.
