The Big 12 Conference imposed a $100,000 fine on the University of Central Florida following discriminatory chants directed at BYU during a football game last Saturday.

Conference officials stated that UCF followed existing protocols and removed some fans from the stadium, though the league added that discriminatory behavior has no place in the Big 12. The release did not specify the exact words used, but videos shared online show fans chanting, "f, the Mormons."

The fine will fund student education initiatives. This incident follows a similar $50,000 fine against Oklahoma State earlier this year for comparable chants during a men's basketball game against BYU.

The Big 12 announced it will update its policy to include in-game penalties for continued discriminatory conduct. A first offense now carries a minimum fine of $100,000 and a formal warning.

If a second confirmed incident occurs during the same game, the league will apply an in-game penalty, such as a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty in football or an unsportsmanlike two-shot technical foul in basketball. Continued behavior could trigger an additional $500,000 fine.

Fans removed for discriminatory conduct will be banned from all athletic events for the remainder of the academic year.
