The Los Angeles franchise requires a perfect 10-0 finish to secure a playoff spot after falling to 0-7 in a 24-9 loss to the Rams.

The Los Angeles Chargers are now mathematically distant from the NFL playoffs after falling to 0-7 with a 24-9 loss to the Rams on Sunday. The defeat extends a losing streak that began last season and forces the team into a scenario that has never occurred in league history. To secure a postseason berth, the franchise must win its remaining 10 games.
Rookie edge rusher Akheem Mesidor, selected 22nd overall in the draft, expressed the uncertainty felt throughout the locker room. The player, who was signed to provide immediate depth for a contender, admitted the struggle to explain the slide. Mesidor stated that the team prepares every week with the intent to win, yet the results have not materialized.
The Chargers have lost 10 consecutive games, counting their AFC wild-card loss to the New England Patriots last season. This is the longest skid in franchise history since the 2000 campaign, when the team went 1-15 under head coach Mike Riley. The current run of losses marks a sharp decline from a roster that carried high expectations into the start of the year.
The offense has failed to convert possession into touchdowns for 27 straight quarters. The unit managed just 9 points against the Rams, highlighting a persistent offensive drought. The running back group, featuring Kimani Vidal, Omarion Hampton, and Keaton Mitchell, combined for 49 yards on 21 carries. That average of 2.3 yards per attempt suggests the rotating trio is not finding a consistent rhythm.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh indicated on Monday that the team may reduce the number of running backs in the rotation. The goal is to allow one player to build momentum and timing. The decision comes as the coaching staff looks for adjustments after a bye week that was intended to simplify the system.
The defense showed early promise by holding the Rams to 14 net yards over the first five possessions. The unit forced a field goal after an interception by quarterback Justin Herbert placed the Rams in the red zone. However, the offensive inability to score eventually erased the defensive advantage in the second half.
Practice squad cornerback Isas Waxter emerged as a standout performer with six tackles. The undrafted rookie from Villanova stopped Rams wideout Puka Nacua for losses on two screen passes. His performance suggests he may provide more than just depth for a secondary dealing with an injury crisis.
The front office has not signaled an intention to sell players on expiring contracts. Veteran edge rusher Khalil Mack, 35, remains the most notable asset that other teams could target. The organization is instead betting on internal correction under Harbaugh's leadership.
Injury updates show cornerback Deane Leonard still in the concussion protocol. Rookie wideout Brenen Thompson is unlikely to practice this week due to a quad and hamstring issue. Tight end David Njoku, who suffered a leg injury against the Raiders on Sept. 20, is expected to return to practice this week.
The Chargers host the Houston Texans next Sunday. The Texans currently hold a 2-5 record and represent a challenging matchup for a team seeking to restart its season.
