Polymarket suspended trading on its international platform on Thursday following a security incident involving a third-party service provider.
The prediction market company halted operations for approximately one hour. Trading resumed in the afternoon after the firm identified and repaired the issue. Polymarket stated it paused activity "out of an abundance of caution" during the investigation.
The company committed to covering the full cost of the disruption for users. In a post on X, the platform said, "We’ll make this right and are fully reimbursing all affected traders." Polymarket added that it referred the matter to a law enforcement agency in the United Kingdom.
Reports link the security breach to DebugBear, a UK-based firm that provides website performance monitoring tools. DebugBear's website was inaccessible Thursday afternoon. The company confirmed on X that it was "impacted by an ongoing security incident." It also urged clients using its products to remove the embed code from their sites. DebugBear did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The extent of the impact on Polymarket users remains unclear. The company has not yet specified the number of traders affected or the total financial loss. It affirmed that any impacted user "will be made whole."
