Nebraska guard Brit Prince was added to the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Top 50 watch list on Thursday. The announcement places the 5-foot-11 junior in the national conversation ahead of the Huskers' season opener against San Jose State on Monday, November 2.
Prince is the first five-star recruit in Nebraska history, a distinction that became relevant when female player ratings began twenty years ago. As a freshman, she averaged 13.4 points, 4 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. She earned Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors and was named the university's Female Freshman Athlete of the Year.
Her sophomore campaign produced career highs in scoring, assists, and steals. She led the team with 17.9 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Prince recorded two 30-point performances, defeating Oral Roberts on November 19, 2025, and Virginia on November 25, 2025. She also had nine games with at least 20 points.
Prince was one of only two players in the country to achieve a 50-40-90 shooting split that season. Her percentages stood at 53.5% from the field, 45.7% from three-point range, and 91.2% from the free-throw line. She set a school record by making 56 consecutive free throws, a streak that included her first 54 attempts in Big Ten competition.
In the postseason, Prince averaged 24.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two blocks across two NCAA tournament games. Her 27-point effort against No. 21 Baylor ranks as the second-highest single-game total in school history. During recent exhibition play, she scored 27 points in a closed scrimmage at Kansas State and 15 points in a televised game against Wayne State.
Prince is the sixth Husker selected for this specific watch list. Previous recipients include Alexis Markowski, who made the list three times between 2022 and 2025, and Jordan Hooper, who was named for three separate seasons. No Nebraska player has won the Naismith Trophy, which has been awarded to the top men's and women's college basketball player since the award expanded to include women in 1983.
The selection process narrows the Top 50 list to a Mid-Season Team of 30 in February. In March, four finalists are chosen, with the winner announced during Final Four weekend. The award is determined by a 75% coach, administrator, and journalist vote and a 25% fan vote.
