The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season have arrived, and they delivered no shortage of talking points. The committee's initial verdict offered the clearest look yet at what it values this year, producing obvious winners and losers and forcing an immediate recalibration of the national championship odds market.

The SEC emerged as the night's biggest winner, placing five teams inside the top 11. Alabama, Kentucky and Texas landed at Nos. 5 through 7, a clustering that signaled just how highly the committee regards the conference and widened its path to the playoff. By contrast, the Big Ten and Big 12 each managed only two teams in playoff position.

At the other end of the spectrum, Ohio State plummeted to 12th following its loss to USC, leaving the Buckeyes as the first team out of the field as things stand. They now have no margin for error the rest of the way. The same pressure applies to Notre Dame, which sits 11th and faces a defining test on Saturday against No. 1 Miami, with the committee effectively demanding the Irish prove they belong.

Because the CFP rankings diverge sharply from the AP Top 25, sportsbooks moved quickly to adjust. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Georgia remains the national title favorite at +330, followed by Notre Dame at +550 and Miami at +600. LSU sits at +750, with Alabama and Indiana both at +1000, Texas at +1100 and Ohio State at +1400.

Georgia held its spot atop the board after beating Florida, but the more intriguing betting angle involves Saturday's showdown. The winner between Miami and Notre Dame figures to see its odds shorten considerably next week. The Irish slipped from +470 to +550 despite a win at Navy, yet a victory over the Hurricanes could put them back on Georgia's heels, or even ahead of the Bulldogs entirely.

SEC teams that won last week and earned the committee's approval all saw their odds tighten significantly. LSU moved from +1000 to +750, Texas improved from +1400 to +1100, Alabama nudged from +1100 to +1000, Ole Miss climbed from +2000 to +1600, and Kentucky made the most dramatic leap, from +8000 to +6000.

Ohio State stands as the biggest loser in the market, tumbling from +500 to +1400 after the USC defeat and its fall out of the top 11. The Buckeyes still have a route to the playoff, but after what the offense showed in Luke Fahey's first start, both oddsmakers and the committee have sharply readjusted their expectations.

Indiana, the Big Ten's other leading contender, also slid, dropping from +850 to +1000 after another overtime escape. Faith in Curt Cignetti's squad to repeat is fading amid persistent offensive struggles. Meanwhile, oddsmakers remain unconvinced by some of the season's surprise stories. Utah (+3000) and UCLA (+4500) continue to sit well outside the top tier even though they are two of the three undefeated teams left in college football.
