Friday afternoon ended the workweek with cool and quiet conditions across the Fargo area. The region will see another round of frost and patchy fog before mild, sunny weather arrives for the weekend. Meteorologists forecast that this warmer pattern will hold steady through mid-November.
The shift toward colder air began in the early morning hours of Friday. Temperatures dropped to near-freezing levels across the region. Scattered clouds allowed for frost formation in several areas. A second wave of frost is expected from Friday night into Saturday morning. Patchy fog will also develop, with visibility impacts most likely east of the Red River.
Warmer air will move into the area over the weekend. Lows are projected to stay in the 30s, while highs will reach the 50s. These temperatures are above normal for early November. The mild weather coincides with the firearm deer opener across Minnesota. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, and rain is not expected. The only potential disruption is the patchy fog forming on Saturday morning.
The dry and mild pattern will continue into next week. Cool Canadian air will slide into the region during the middle of the week, marking the coolest days of the period. Otherwise, lows will remain in the 30s, and highs will range from the upper 40s to the low 50s. High pressure will bring stable air, resulting in partly sunny skies and little chance of rain.
Some weather models indicate a clipper system may sweep into the Northern Plains toward the middle of next week. If this system materializes, it could bring isolated showers. Forecasters are monitoring the system closely. Otherwise, the region will remain dry.
Specific forecasts for the Fargo area show a low of 30 degrees on Friday night with patchy fog. Saturday will bring partly cloudy skies and a high of 58 degrees. Sunday will be partly cloudy with a low of 35 and a high of 54. Monday will see a low of 40 and a high of 58. Tuesday will be cooler, with a low of 33 and a high of 49. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain, a low of 33, and a high of 50. Thursday will be partly cloudy with a low of 34 and a high of 51. The following Friday will be partly cloudy with a low of 37 and a high of 49.
The forecast indicates a stable weather pattern for hunters and outdoor activities. The combination of mild temperatures and dry conditions provides a favorable window for the deer season. No major storms are anticipated before the middle of next week.
