Cesar Hurtado was arrested on Thursday morning following a search of a Joliet home.
Joliet Police Department Dwayne English announced the operation in a press release. Officers executed the search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Eunice Avenue at 6:41 a.m.
Multiple units joined the effort. The Joliet Police Department’s Narcotics Unit, Tactical Unit, K9 Unit, Neighborhood Policing Team, and Patrol Division were present. The Will County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement partners also took part.
The search followed a Narcotics Unit investigation into suspected illegal drug sales. Hurtado, 35, of Joliet, was identified as a suspect in that case. English said officers recovered four handguns during the raid. One stolen handgun had a firearm conversion device attached. This device, known as a switch, allows a gun to fire automatically.
Officers also found more than 100 grams of suspected cocaine. They seized over 6 pounds of suspected cannabis. The team recovered numerous rounds of live ammunition and extended magazines.
Hurtado was taken into custody during a traffic stop shortly before the warrant was executed. He faced several charges. These include Armed Violence (Class X) and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Class X). He was also charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Deliver, Unlawful Possession of Firearms, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Additional charges include Defacing Identification Marks of Firearm, Endangering Life or Health of a Child, and a Safe Gun Storage Act Violation.
Hurtado was processed at the Joliet Police Department. He was then transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
