Marvel: Patrick Stewart's last film is 'Avengers: Doomsday'
The actor, who died in October at age 86, appeared as Charles Xavier in the upcoming movie, which premieres on December 18.

Patrick Stewart died in October at the age of 86 following a brief illness involving Alzheimer's and Lewy Body Dementia. His final performance on the big screen will be in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel Studios confirmed the news in a tribute released on October 29. The film marks the ninth time Stewart played the character of Professor X on the screen. His debut in the role was in the 2000 film X-Men, where he established the character's composure and wisdom. He has since appeared as the telepathic mentor in numerous sequels and reboots over a span of more than 25 years.
The actor's career included other major roles, most notably Captain Picard in the Star Trek franchise. These two characters are widely considered his most iconic screen performances. Between his first X-Men appearance and the new Avengers film, Stewart returned to the role in titles including X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Logan.
In a July interview with TV Insider, Stewart discussed his decision to reprise the role in the new film. He stated that while roles for older actors become scarcer, he continued to receive offers and enjoyed the challenge of new work. Stewart said, "I can't imagine ever officially retiring. I'll always and forever be an actor."
Hugh Jackman, who worked with Stewart on the X-Men franchise, shared a tribute on Instagram. He described Stewart as a tremendous friend and a great of stage and screen. Jackman wrote, "I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days."
The directors of Avengers: Doomsday, Joe and Anthony Russo, also issued a statement. They described Stewart as a legendary actor with unmatched integrity and called him one of their childhood heroes. Marvel Studios described the late actor as a singular talent and a true gentleman who defined Professor X for generations of fans.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18 from Disney and Marvel Studios.
