Twelve former officials from the Biden administration issued a joint statement on Wednesday demanding that Democratic candidates for the 2028 presidential nomination block specific individuals from returning to power. The group, identifying as the Gaza Resignees, resigned between late 2023 and 2024 in protest of what they called illegal and unconditional support for Israel's actions in Gaza.

The statement argues that basic accountability requires barring officials who enabled the war from future administrations. It calls on potential nominees to pledge that they will not hire any administration official directly responsible for supporting Israel's military operations. The authors accuse certain senior figures of whitewashing their roles in enabling genocide while remaining silent on violations of American and international law.

The resignees outline three specific pledges for future candidates. First, leaders must uphold the Constitution and prioritize the national interest. Second, they must acknowledge U.S. complicity in the conflict through arms sales, funding, and diplomatic backing. Third, they must build a cabinet that leaves no room for anyone who was an architect, leader, defender, or key enabler of policies supporting Israel.

The group notes that several rights groups and United Nations inquiries have concluded the war amounts to genocide. According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 74,564 Palestinians have been killed and 175,770 wounded since the war began in October 2023.

Criticism of the Biden administration's stance emerged from progressive lawmakers and activists throughout the conflict. That opposition continues under the current government, with figures such as Representative Rashida Tlaib and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani opposing continued U.S. support for Israel.

The statement was published under the title Gaza Resignees. The twelve signatories served in the administration during its tenure from 2021 to 2024. They now seek to influence the vetting process for the next Democratic ticket.
