Ashley Moody kept her U.S. Senate seat in Florida on Tuesday night, securing a victory over Democratic challenger Angie Nixon. The result confirms Moody's hold on the position she has occupied since early 2025.

Moody entered the Senate in January 2025 when Governor Ron DeSantis appointed her to fill the vacancy left by Marco Rubio. Rubio departed the chamber to take the role of Secretary of State in the Trump administration. Because Rubio won a full term in 2022, a special election was required to complete the remaining time on the ballot.

A native of Plant City, Moody is a fifth-generation Floridian who completed her education at the University of Florida. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting before obtaining her law degree from the same institution. She later added a Master of Laws in International Law from Stetson University College of Law.

Before joining the Senate, Moody worked at a private law firm and the U.S. Attorney's Office. She then served as Florida's attorney general from 2019 until her appointment to the federal seat.

Moody will serve the final two years of Rubio's original term, a period that concludes in 2029. Her seat will return to the ballot for a full election in 2028.
