Nebraska fans began throwing objects onto the field at Lincoln Memorial Stadium following Saturday's 17-10 loss to Washington. The protest occurred after the Cornhuskers failed to close out the game, extending a troubling trend that has defined their recent schedule.

Nebraska is currently the only team in the Football Bowl Subdivision to hold a lead entering the fourth quarter in every game this season. Despite that statistical anomaly, the team has lost three straight games after establishing advantages against Indiana, Oregon, and now Washington.

The defeat dropped the Huskers' record and intensified criticism toward head coach Matt Rhule. Dr. Rob Zatechka, a former Husker and host of the Husker Doc Talk podcast, described the coach's position as a "hot seat." Zatechka, who played for the program and won the 1994 Big 8 Athlete of the Year award, argued that the pattern of late-game failures constitutes a coaching problem.

Zatechka noted that while the fanbase has historically been patient, the pressure is mounting. He pointed to the ongoing stadium renovation, which has increased costs for supporters, as a factor in the growing frustration. "They've been asked to be patient; at the same time, they've been asked to give more," Zatechka said during the episode.

Criticism also extended to offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen. Zatechka observed that Holgorsen largely abandoned the running game in the third quarter against Washington. The analyst argued that Holgorsen relies too heavily on the quarterback position and that the team must run the ball more frequently to succeed in the Big Ten conference.

The podcast episode, presented by Strategic Solutions Sanitation, focused primarily on the state of the program rather than the specific plays of the Washington game. The show is produced by Bald Media and co-hosted by Travis Justice, who has over 25 years of experience in Nebraska sports media.

Nebraska will face Illinois next. The team must stop the bleeding in the fourth quarter to halt a streak that has left the fanbase questioning the current coaching staff's ability to finish games.
