The Pittsburgh Steelers hold sole possession of first place in the AFC North with a 6-2 record heading into their Week 9 bye. The team secured this position following a Week 8 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Defensive back Jalen Ramsey addressed the media from his locker while his teammate Jaquan Brisker handled questions regarding pregame comments from Browns pass rusher Jared Verse.
Ramsey, who turned 32 on October 29, is in his 11th NFL season and his second with Pittsburgh. The Steelers acquired the eight-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro selection in a trade with the Miami Dolphins in June 2025. He previously spent nine seasons with other teams, including a Super Bowl win with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
In his first year with Pittsburgh, Ramsey recorded 88 tackles, three sacks, one interception, and eight passes defensed. Those efforts contributed to the Steelers' first division title since 2020. This season, he has continued to play while managing a broken wrist. His most notable play of the year came in Week 6 when he recorded a sack on the final play of overtime against Tampa.
Ramsey attributed his ability to remain physical despite the injury to faith and pain medication. He stated that he focuses on clearing his mind to maintain his intensity on the field. He described his motivation as a desire not to take the opportunity to play football for granted while competing for his teammates and fans.
The cornerback praised the team's offensive balance, specifically the effectiveness of the running game. He noted that when the offense gains 200 rushing yards, it reduces the time the defense spends on the field. He called this balance a dream for any defensive unit because it helps keep players fresh.
Ramsey expressed appreciation for how quickly the Pittsburgh fan base embraced him. He cited legendary defenders from the organization's past as early inspirations for his game. He models his tenacity and physicality after those players, believing this style resonates with the community. Being traded to the team allowed him to align his play with the franchise's defensive culture.
The Steelers will take a break next week before resuming play. Ramsey described the team as being in a good spot despite the season's highs and lows. He preferred to keep his assessment simple without comparing the current group to other teams. The defense remains a central focus of the team's strategy as they prepare for the latter half of the season.
